In Sicily, where St. Joseph is regarded
by many as their Patron Saint, thanks are
given to St. Joseph for preventing a famine
during the Middle Ages. There was a
severe drought at the time, and the people
prayed for their patron saint to bring them rain.
They promised that if he answered their prayers,
they would prepare a large feast to honor him.
The rain did come, and the people
of Sicily prepared a large banquet
for their patron saint. The fava bean
was the crop which saved the population
from starvation, and is a traditional
part of St. Joseph's Day altars and traditions.
Giving food to the needy is a St. Joseph's Day custom.

Lent Feb 17th to April 3rd
Lent, is the forty-day-long liturgical season of fasting and prayer before Easter.
The forty days represent the time Jesus spent in the desert.
Lent begins on Ash Wednesday and concludes on Holy Saturday

Traditionally fish prices are very high during Lent, especially fresh fish.
We will continue our regular fish dishes, at market prices and we'll feature
a variety of meatless Lenten specials throughout Lent.

REMEMBER, WE PAN FRY AND BAKE OUR FRESH FISH. (NO DEEP FRYING)
